The Wolfmen is the moniker adopted by a pair of collaborators bearing impeccable credentials. Marco Pirroni was a lynchpin of the UK punk scene, scoring his first gig in 1976 as a 17-year-old guitarist with Siouxsie and the Banshees. He went on to join Adam and the Ants as guitarist/songwriter, writing five No.1 singles and a further four Top 10 hits from 1979-82, when the original lineup imploded. Pirroni remained as Adam Ant’s co-writer and musical director until 1995; during the ’90s he also enjoyed success with Sinead O’Connor. Chris Constantinou started off in 1977 as guitarist in the acclaimed rock band Drill. He first hooked up with Pirroni as a member of Adam Ant’s band in 1982, remaining through most of the ’80s before joining with Bow Wow Wow singer Annabella Lwin in the 1990s. In 2004, Pirroni and Constantinou decided to collaborate on each other’s solo projects; but after two weeks, Pirroni declared, “Well, this is stupid, why don’t we just do it together and call it ‘The Wolfmen’?” The results have proven fruitful: the group topped a recent Mojo magazine playlist and enjoyed a No.1 smash on the BBC Asian Network thanks to a collaboration with Daler Mehndi.
