Kaskade is a master at what he does. He has made a name for himself and continues to produce infectious beats that present a certain attitude, and this mix album definitely displays that attitude. His new mix album “The Grand” has nothing over-the-top about it; it’s simply a soulful mix of beats that definitively portrays Kaskade’s own personal style, but still allows it to be marketable to the masses. The tracks are coherent and unique and easy to grasp, making for a great dance album overall.
I myself am not a regular listener or fan of this type of music, but I do occasionally hear tracks from similar artists here and there. I have to say that the entire album kept me wanting to listen to more of it and sounded fresh and easily translatable. The album is uplifting, both in spirit and body, and presents a progression of ideas as the album itself progresses; no prior knowledge of the Electronica/Dance genre needed.
I like the album’s modern-generation vibe; it’s like a collaboration between Kaskade and the events of our generation today. It’s young, it’s imaginative, and it’s personal, three things that will definitely relate to those who hear his music. Kaskade has developed an album that has meaning in each song and conveys emotion to the listener, as well as an undying passion for what is being produced. He interprets the original songs well and incorporates his style as an addition and not a recycling of the former ideas. The beats contribute rather than hurt the original song, as many remixes currently are known for doing.
The album generates the feeling of a new era and branches out from the dull and repetitive beats of several other artists. I found each track displaying a different style and definition, and for dance music, that’s pretty difficult to do effectively.
Listening to it in an office is much different from listening to it in a club, yet it is still easily enjoyed away from an open dance floor. Not an avid listener of dance or electronic music, I know that there is certainly a fan-base for this genre that I would highly recommend this album to.
The beats don’t feel arbitrary. There is a planned and thought-out feeling throughout the album that contributes to the enjoyment for the listener, and Kaskade’s intelligence is greatly conveyed and easily displayed. Music is defined only by the feelings that it gives you, and that still is indefinable. Yet Kaskade’s mix presents a clear definition of himself as an artist and finds beats that are easily infective and appropriate for our current generation.
