jade tree records

-- yet another street punk rock and roll band from Boston, the explosion are exploding with pure energy. blaring guitars, great running bass lines, and a snotty faux British accent power this band through the half dozen songs on this debut. jade tree records, home of sensitive emo/indie rockers such as jets to brazil, and the promise ring, have landed quite a catch with these kids. while it's a common theme, i haven't heard a band in a long time who could scream 'we don't give a fuck', and make you believe it. 'hero' is a great mid-tempo number that makes me think of stiff little fingers or latter lars fredrikson-helmed releases from the business. i can just imagine the audience flying out of control when the classic hardcore style of 'out tonite' gets going. the guitar intro to 'simple lives' sounds exactly like the beginning of the clash's 'tommy gun' and the oi-inspired crowd participation chorus is right on target. fans of early British inner-circle bands like the pistols and machine gun etiquette-era damned, and later brit punks like sham 69, should definitely check this out. powerful guitars, snotty spit-flying vocals, rapid fire drums and rolling bass. a great start.
