Dec. 8 2007, Chain Reaction Anaheim,CA - The best way to describe the My American Heart show at Chain Reaction is hot, sweaty, sticky and the love for music all in one small crowded space. The show was sold out. A Change Of Pace did an excellent job as an opening band. Their set contained most of their new songs, which I do not know, but they had the energy a band needs on stage. It was a great way to get the audience pumped up for My American Heart.
My American Heart opened up with their song “There Are More Frightening Things.” I think what makes this a great opener are the guitar lines; it reminds me of an average catchy rock song that everyone wants to hear. The crowd was crazy. I looked to my right, and there were fans trying to start a pit, hardcore dance, or just push people around to get to the front. It was pretty stupid and kind of ruined the show a little for me. If you’re going to do that stuff, you should do it at a show that is not an indie band, do it at a hardcore show, no one wants it at a show like My American Heart. Stupid. Saying that, as I kept watching Larry sing, I realized that I enjoyed hearing him and the rest of the band live because they sound exactly like they do on their album. My American Heart slowed their set down later with their song “Tired and Uninspired.” It was a good way to slow things down but keep the fans wanting more.
I was kind of disappointed at the encore performance by My American Heart. They ended their set with “This Won’t Stop.” It’s a great song but it’s nothing compared to “Boys! Grab Your Guns.” It’s not filled with the same energy that you should have to end a set and to leave your fans wanting more. All in all, the show was great; it’s a band worth checking out if you haven’t already.
Set list:
There are more Frightening Things
Innocent Letter
The Process
White Lines
Tired and Uninspired
Hiding Inside the Horrible Weather
The Shake
Speak Low if you Speak Love
Moving On
Boys! Grab Your Guns
This Won't Stop
