Unable to be encapsulated by a single title, Justin Brogdon is many forms of an artist….a singer, a guitarist, a songwriter. His unique fusion of artforms culminate into a medley of lyrics and music, striking a chord within all who hear the soulful artist. Listeners become captivated by the familiarity of the unfolding story lines in his songs, which share his perception of the daily tribulations in the lives which we all lead. Drawing from his own personal experiences with life, this artist creates a storyboard of imagery… pain, heartache, love, and passion.
His self-titled debut album, Justin Brogdon, is in cooperative with some of the South’s best musicians including the likes of: Benji Shanks, Stephen Spivey, Andrew Hanmer, Jess Franklin, and Tony Giordano. Perhaps even more impressive than the all star cast of musicians, is the team of producers brought on board to mix the album. Don McCollister, a multi-platinum, two-time Grammy Award winning producer/engineer (Sister Hazel, Shawn Mullins, Indigo Girls, Third Day) as well as John Kurzweg (Creed, Puddle of Mudd, and Jewel), another talented multi-platinum producer, brought direction and vision to the record.
At the beginning of 2007, Justin and his band converged at Nickel & Dime Studios in Avondale Estates, Ga. and began recording. The result was the emergence of the album, Justin Brogdon, containing 12 original songs from the lyricist. From the dark and passionate lyrics of “Regarding Jamie” to the upbeat cadence of joy riding with friends in “Everything”… Justin and his band evoke a wide variety of emotions from a diverse audience. One can’t help but feel like they’re riding shotgun with Brogdon, as the stories of his life unfold before their very eyes.
Along with his soulful voice, Brogdon’s engaging stage presence is distinctly his own, and yet, there’s a familiarity about him that you can’t quite put your finger on. Honesty and candor onstage create a rapport with his audience, making him feel more like that of an old friend, than an entertainer. The influences of Justin’s musical career are a by-product of his parent’s eclectic musical taste. As a child he was exposed to everything from his mother’s R &B albums, to his fathers classic rock collections. These influences germinated Justin’s own blending of genres, resonating in a vintage rock sound with modern, infectious choruses.
Whether watching him perform or listening to his album, one thing is abundantly clear about Justin Brogdon. He is music. Whether performing, creating, or discussing the craft of writing it; he is intensely passionate and respectful of the art. As a singer, guitarist, and songwriter he inspires, evokes emotional response, and captivates the audience with his tales that weave us all together in the common thread of life.
