How
did the group come together, and how would you describe
you music?
Pomilla set out ads in music magazines and came
across drummer Heath and then found bass player
Jonathon. The 3 starting writing and came across
the vocal talents of Paul Van.
Best
place you have ever performed, and what made it
so special?
The best place we have performed was at Children's
Hospital in Hollywood in April 2002 for a large
group of kids. Solarcade played the benefit for
a nonprofit organization in order to raise money
and awareness for terminally ill children. It was
fun to see their faces light up and really enjoy
the music.
Where
do you see yourselves in one year?
I realistically see Solarcade either touring with
some bigger bands or finishing up a full album for
a record label.
Favorite
food you can eat 24/7?
All the guys say pizza hands down because there
so many different toppings to choose from even if
you are vegetarian.
Where
would we most likely find you on a Saturday night?
Right now you would most likely find the band at
home or hanging with friends. Solarcade right now
is playing 10-12 shows a month so when we have a
day to relax we try to take advantage. Great places
to hang out and party are Hermosa Beach or Venice.
Major
influences when it comes to music?
Pomilla's biggest influences are Slash, Dean Deleo
(Stone Temple Pilots), Stevie Ray Vaughn, and The
Edge (U2), and Ed Van Halen. Those guys are so incredible
and have set the standard for great songwriting
and playing. Heath's favorites consist of Jimmie
Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins), and Eric Kretz
(STP). These drummers have given Heath the tools
to not just play drums but give Solarcade its percussive
identity. Jonathon's favorites are Thelonius Monk,
Metallica, Chopin, and Faith No More. Jon pulls
a little from these players to create his own signature
style. Paul Van's influences range from Bono, Simon
LeBon (Duran Duran), David Bowie, David Hutchince
(INXS), and Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode). Paul has
an uncanny ability to portray an aura and vocal
presence like these great artists.
Greatest
moment in your careers so far?
The greatest moment would be when we play every
Wednesday night we have new fans that sing and know
all the words and at the end of out last set the
fans turn the glasses upside down and hit them on
the tables while screaming, "One more Song,
One More Song!!" We know that our music is
pulling them in. we are now seeing familiar faces
every week that are being converted into hardcore
Solarcade fans.
You
have just been told you only have 24 hours to live,
what do you do?
I would call my whole family in Texas and tell them
that I love them but ensure that it is okay because
when I go I will be playing my guitars.
If
you could only thank one person for all the success
you had thus far, who would it be?
If I had to narrow it down to one person and one
person only it would be simple. This person would
be RADD (Recording Artists Against Drunk Driving)
President Eric McClure. Eric is directly and indirectly
responsible for the swift success of Solarcade on
many levels. He is one of the dearest friends of
the band and started to help Solarcade because of
one reason: He loved the music. I can tell you that
there is not many people in the industry like this
person and we appreciate him everyday for giving
us the chance to shine for him.
If
you could open up for any recording artists out
there, who would it be and why?
Now I feel like a kid in a candy store. OK, here
goes....Depeche Mode, Stone Temple Pilots, GooGooDolls,
FooFighters, Pearl Jam, Oasis, Dave Mathews Band,
U2, Coldplay, Remy Zero, Starsailor, Turin Brakes,
Chris Cornell, and Slash's Snakepit. I told you
I felt like a kid in a candy store....
Has
a fan ever done anything crazy, just to meet you
guys?
Solarcade gives away 40-50 CDs at every show. We
always are getting these new fans who demand we
sign the CD so they can prove to their friends that
they saw us play in small venues. We are most flattered.
These are the kinds of fans that will put us on
top. I occasionally get emails from kids out of
state or even the country who want a photo and CD
autographed because they know we will be big and
would not do this later for them. I am so grounded
to earth because I am from a small town and I love
getting fanmail and emails. I promise to always
return the fans call. please email me if you would
like a free CD and I will send it to you: pomilla75@aol.com
