| Spotlight:
Ryan Cabrera
Girls
will fall head over heels for him and guys will
want to be his best friend-that is just the kind
of personality Atlantic Record's upcoming recording
artist Ryan Cabrera has. At only 16, he was already
making things happen for himself back in his home
state of Texas. He has already done numerous gigs
and has a sold-out indie album at 21. With his
debut album fully completed, this is just the
beginning.
With
the musical stylings of an acoustic singer/songwriter,
it is only natural that people compare Ryan to
John Mayer, but that does not bother him in the
least bit. "Shoot, compare me to whoever
you want, I love John Mayer. I mean I don't think
I sound like John Mayer specifically, but I think
when people see someone up there with an acoustic
guitar...they think John Mayer. John Mayer two
years ago was Dave Matthews, know what I mean?"
Ryan definitely brings his own uniqueness to his
music, and taking from real life experiences,
it is not difficult to relate to it. It is not
even about people relating to his words the way
he does; rather, it is about taking his music
and letting it mean something to them, even if
the meaning they get out of it is entirely different.
He is a guy just trying to share with the world
what music does to him.
A
song that will undoubtedly do well with the ladies
would be his song "True." "True"
is just one of the many songs that Ryan has written
from his past experiences. A time when he was
so head-over-heels for a girl that he put himself
on the line to find out if she felt the same way.
It isn't hard for the ladies to fall for a guy
like that, but at the same time Ryan is truly
just one of the guys. After a couple of months
on a college tour sponsored by Pi Kappa, he got
to experience the whole college frat boy life
living from fraternity to fraternity.
Working
with Johnny Rzeznik on his debut album gave Ryan
the freedom to really express himself. "Working
with John is awesome. John let me be myself and
let me do what I wanted, but also he is obviously
an amazing songwriter and artist. We just collided
heads and in a month we created a really intense
album." It is always good to have the right
people backing you up like the Goo Goo Dolls frontman,
but you can also add famous dad Joe Simpson to
the list. "Oh, Joe is my hero in life; it's
awesome. He is like my best friend/manager; I
mean, he let me live with them." It was actually
Joe Simpson who had really helped him get the
attention of the record label, although, Ryan
was still very adamant about not letting Jessica
Simpson ride on his coat tails..."Yeah right!"
he laughed.

A
guy who calls me trying to convince me that
he is a guy looking for a room for rent, who
has an uncanny love for chocolate chip cookies,
and who says his best buy was his spinning racecar
toothbrush makes it hard not to smile at his
antics. All joking aside, Ryan definitely has
a good head on his shoulders. His favorite song
happens to be the title of the album "Take
It All Away," which will be released on
June 29th. "It is a really positive message
that the material things in life don't really
matter. You should be so strong in yourself
and your faith that you don't need all that
tangible stuff. I mean you see people who have
nothing, and yet they are so happy. And all
the people that look like they are so happy
aren't," explained Ryan. It is refreshing
to see such good things happening to good people,
and Ryan has just gotten a taste of the good
to come.
With
the release of the album coming this summer,
it is no doubt you will hear more of Ryan. His
single "On The Way Down" is set to
be released sometime in May, and the music video
for the song has a cameo from another rising
star, Ashlee Simpson. To learn more about Ryan,
