Spotlight: No Trigger
In the later half of the year 2000, a young three-piece aggressive punk band from Massachusetts changed their name to No Trigger. After a short tour to Chicago as well as recording a demo CD while in town, their show schedule slowed and the band seemed to lose momentum. In the fall of 2002, that momentum rekindled when No Trigger joined forces with another local punk band to create a five-piece and a more powerful sound. With the new line-up, Mike Ciprari (drums), Mike Pryzgoda (guitar), Tom Rheault (vocals), Tom Ciesluk (bass), and Jon Strader (guitar), came new goals as well as a more refined, thicker sound. Socially relevant lyrics highlight their mix of melodic and aggressive punk, recalling moments of Strike Anywhere, Against Me!, and Kid Dynamite.

Since forming as a five-piece, No Trigger has put out two independent releases (since released as one title, Extinction In Stereo, on Bigmouth Records in Japan), toured extensively, playing with bands such as None More Black, Bigwig, Small Brown Bike, Paint It Black, Glasseater, and A Wilhelm Scream. Nitro Records signed the band in March 2005. Currently, No Trigger is writing material for their debut full-length, slated for an early 2006 release.

This month, Tom from No Trigger.
Why don't we start with you introducing yourself?
Hello my name is Tom and I sing for the band No Trigger.
For our readers that might not know of No Trigger, can you tell us a little more about the Band and describe your music style?
I guess we are just a fun-lovin’ guitar slingin’ in your face melodic hardcore band out of central Massachusetts. We take pride in our commitment to our bands music and message as well as our ability to get wasted and talk about other people’s music and messages. We have relatively strong lyrical themes but they are more passive than preachy. We just kind of throw stuff out there, you know? The music itself ranges from mid-tempo to fast as balls, but its pretty much driven by melody, catchiness, and aggression all around. It’s a good time I swear.

We know you are the vocals behind the band. Is singing something you always wanted to do?

I mean, yeah, singing is pretty great. You get to be right up with the fans watching you and you can interact and get into it a lot easier. I guess its something I’ve always wanted to do, but I can play guitar and bass pretty well so, I mean, I wouldn’t mind playing an instrument either. Sometimes I really wish I had a guitar or drum set to hide behind on stage, but writing the words and having people sing along to the words you write is a very gratifying experience for sure.
