How
has the Teen People tour going?
Maria:
It is going very well, we are almost at the end
of it. I didn't know what to expect because we don't
have that mall culture in Norway, so I didn't know
what a mall tour was. It
is pretty cool; people are actually showing up to
see me. So I am very much enjoying that.
So
were you nervous about doing the whole crossing
over to the states?
Maria:
You know I was, but there were so many people who
were really interested in my music and me. So the
transition was very cool, and now I am having the
time of my life. I can't wait to see what is going
to happen next.
Now
you are 18, but you actually got really famous in
Norway when you were young. How was it growing up
in the spotlight?
Maria:
It wasn't really difficult. I had a great time,
especially the year were promoting and touring.
After that I had this period when I doubted my own
talent and I didn't know if I could make another
record. It turns out I could, and that is this record.
So
was singing something you always wanted to do?
Maria:
Singing came second, first and foremost I saw myself
as a songwriter. I really enjoyed doing that it
is really my passion.
Yeah
as far as lyrics go, you said you always want to
be honest. Are you ever hesitant about putting things
out there for the whole world to hear?
Maria:
I really try not to censor myself, but it has happened.
Sometimes when you are in a really dark place, you
tend to write some really disturbing stuff (laughs).
I still have those songs for me to listen to, but
as far as putting it out there, it wouldn't do anyone
any good.
What
is your favorite song on the album?
Maria:
My favorite song is "Sorry". I think I
really managed to put my feelings into words. Yeah
that is my favorite, even to perform. People get
caught into that song.
So
what can people expect from a live performance?
Maria:
Very rock sound. Well it depends because the acoustic
show its different, more like the album. When you
see me with the band though, we really rock out.
People come up to me blown away, because they don't
expect that. You won't see me dancing, nothing to
distract you from the music, it's me performing
my songs.
So
the album is called "White Turns Blue,"
what is that about?
Maria:
That was a poem my best friends wrote for me. I
was at a very weird place and I didn't know if I
wanted to finish the album and release it. That
poem basically inspired to finish the album.
Where
do you see yourself in 5 years?
Maria:
Hopefully I am touring, I would love to have my
own tour.
So
if you can pick anyone to tour with, who would it
be?
Maria:
It would be a Norwegian called Span. They are really
a rock band; it would be cool to tour with them.
Yeah
I heard you were into the whole boy band thing when
you were younger. What do you think inspired your
music? I mean it is pop, but it has a different
feel to it.
Maria:
Yeah and it will continue to develop. It is really
about me playing with my own sound. I wouldn't say
any one thing inspired me. I just went with how
I felt that day.
What
is the biggest adjustment you had to make?
Maria:
Just how much of a business it is here. It is so
hard to get your face out over here.
When
all is said and done, what do you want to be known
for?
Maria:
That I was a natural diva (laughs). Not in the sense
of money and fame, but I was born a diva (laughs).
What
message would you like to give to your fans out
there?
Maria:
See you soon!!
