Your album recently went Gold...so congratulations! What was going through your mind when Rosie O’Donnell gave you the plaque?

Thank you very much! I was so shocked. I had no idea. It was a big shock to me but it was a very good feeling.

Is singing something you’ve always wanted to do?

Absolutely. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve wanted to sing. I knew this is what I wanted to do, but I didn’t know how to go about doing it.

What was your most memorable moment from your American Idol experience?

Just getting my first golden ticket to Hollywood because that was the beginning of my career.

How about when you were performing? Was there a certain performance that sticks out in your mind?

I really enjoyed Queen Week.

Your album is titled “Small Town Girl”. What was it like recording your debut album?

It was awesome. The album is a reflection of my life and who I am. The songs I really great and I co-wrote 5 of them. It’s really intimate and it’s personal.

What was the writing process like? Was this your first time writing songs?

This is my first time writing and I got together with a great song writer here in Nashville named Amy. She wrote “Long Stars of May” and “This is for the Girls” for Martina McBride. She’s a great writer and we wrote five songs together for my album and she wrote a few other songs on her own for the album. There is nothing I would change about the album. I love all the songs and they are dear to me. It was a fun process.

“I Wonder” is your newest single. Have you shot a video for this yet?

We are shooting a video in two weeks.

Cool. Do you know what’s it going to be like? Have you seen any treatments for it yet?

I looked at a few treatments so we are narrowing it down.

“My Angel” is actually my favorite song on the album. What is your favorite song and why?

My favorite song is “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You”, Track Number Four. Amy wrote that one. The lyrics are killer. I think the song is so relatable to so many different circumstances. It’s just a big power ballad. I love it.

Well after the success of your time on American Idol, getting signed, and your album going Gold, have you splurged on anything crazy like a house or a car?

I did buy a place last week in Nashville. I did buy a new car…and shoes! That’s my spluge..shoes.

I know this song is more personal to you. Can you tell us more about the song and what it means to you? Is it harder to perform this song because it’s more personal to you?

It’s basically the relationship I don’t have with my mom. It’s just questions I’ve had over the last twenty years. My mom left when I was a little girl and I have no idea where she is or what she does. I don’t know anything about her life now. It’s just different questions I’ve had. Writing the song has been like therapy. I think the song is very relatable to a lot of people even if their circumstances are a little different—it’s still relatable.

Who are your musical influences?

I’m a huge Dolly Parton fan. She’s my favorite. I’m a sucker for the classics.

Okay, so I have to ask this for all our male readers out there. Are you currently single?

I am. I’m single as a slice of cheese!

So what plans do you have for this New Year? Can we expect to see you on tour soon? Are you working on a new CD?

I’m touring. I’m going on the Brad Paisley tour this summer so we start that in April. I’m not sure if we are going to record. If we do, it will probably be in the Fall of first of next year.

Well is there anything you want to say to your fans before you go?

Thank you for all of your love, support, prayers..and for picking Pickler!
