Spotlight: Finch
Check out our newest spotlight: Finch. Alex on guitar, Derek on bass, Nate as leading vocals, Pappas on drums, and Randy on guitar. These five guys together make up the band Finch. Finch hopes to bridge the gap between hard rock and pop punk. Signed with Drivethru Records, these guys has what it takes to rock the world with their music. Their album, "What It Is To Burn" was released on March 12, 2002 and the band is currently on tour. Right now you can catch Finch at shows around the U.S. and the UK. The guys will also spend their summer playing on the Drive-Thru Records stage on the Warped Tour.

So what do you expect to hear when you pop Finch's CD in your player? "Stay With Me" from their "What is it to burn" album will get you up out of your seat and rocking out to the musc. This song definitely shows that Finch does bridge the gap between hard rock and pop punk. "Stay With Me" has hard rock beats, but vocals are definitely more pop punkish. As a former teenybopper (and I mean former), I would have never thought in a million years that I would actually like any music besides pop/R&B. Finch has a sound that can draw all types of music lovers to their music.

For all you hard rock fans, don't worry. "Untitled" from their album starts off with a scream and music that will make you head bang til you get a headache, LoL. The song then becomes a little slow, but dont be fooled...a few more crazy yo screams are in still in store. Finch's CD definitely has at least one song that you will love. Don't take my word for it, go buy the cd and decide for yourself.

This month, Finch.
How long ago did you guys form the group and how did it all come about?
We started from high school. Freshman year, me and Pappas started playing together and then we just started adding one by one. Second year, we added Nate. Next year we added Derek and then the year after that we added Randy. We actually started getting serious about it when everyone was graduating.. about 2, almost 3 years ago.
Did you guys ever have any other group name besides Finch? I know one of them was Numb, but was there any other ones.. Any wacky ones?
We had other different bands, but Finch was just Finch. I was in a sin-pop band before. It was a keyboard player, a drummer, and then me on guitar. It was with my friend Ralph. He was, like, 30 at the time and I was, like, 17. It was bad, it was really bad.

How did you end up picking Finch?

It was just a name. We wanted a name that wasn't too suggestive. When you hear a name like Slair, you're like, "oh it's metal." When you hear Excodist, you're thinking metal. We just wanted something that would be a word that wouldn't suggest too much and would define music for ourselves.
