Fefe Dobson
"Always
smile and if you feel you can't, pop in my CD",
pleads the sweet Canadian sensation who has blown-up
over night. That's right, press 'play' and you
will be elevated to another level of rapture when
you get a hint of Fefe's flavor. Fefe Dobson,
18, of Toronto, Canada, is making great headway-something
she has waited for and let pass her by earlier
in here career so that she could perfect her art.
Being noticed a while back for her talent, Fefe
who is inspired by an array of artists from Judy
Garland to Kurt Cobain, was strong-minded and
determined to not become a puppet in the music
industry. No bubble gum pop for her! Fefe is actually
a musician as well as a song-writer who exudes
a unique enthusiasm in her performance. If you
have been watching MTV's TRL, you will be familiar
with her video "Take Me Away", which
has made it to the top ten countdown right alongside
of some of the biggest names in the music industry
like Christina Aguiliera and Britney Spears. She
has so far made it up to the 6th spot and is continuing
to reach new heights. If you do not see passion
and seriousness in this girl's face as she sings
to the camera, you may have on the wrong channel!
After
watching Fefe in the MTV studios for the first
time gracing TRL's live show, I realized just
how big this newcomer is getting. Fans were lining
the street in Times Square holding signs and screaming
for this new superstar. Fefe says that the day
before her appearance on TRL, she was noticed
at the Virgin Record Store and was asked to sign
autographs for about 20 fans. Not so bad for someone
who seems to have crept up on us.
This
stardom-bound girl plays a mixture of music on
her self-titled CD. It is hard to label her style.
Basically, if you are a music lover of any kind,
you will love this blend. There are samples of
many genres from pop to hard core rock and roll.
She knows what she is doing, that's for sure.
Her
reason for holding out with her first opportunity
at stardom was because something was missing.
Her music seemed incomplete. She had a need to
add more guitar. She wanted to feel the music
she was writing, and now with the help of superior
musical talents, she has it. "The Epitome
of Def Jam" is what Lyor Cohen, CEO of Def
Jam, called Fefe when he first heard her sing.
Those at Island Records knew they had a hit on
their hands after hearing about 30 seconds of
this talented young artist.
Not
only does Fefe sing and play guitar and piano
(which she self taught herself), but she says
we may be seeing her soon giving in to her other
passion-acting. Stage work she has done, and now
she is ready to hit the screen.
Fefe,
who is thankful every single day for being blessed
with her talents and accomplishments, is enjoying
her independence while she is hitting the states
and missing her family back home in Canada. Even
for the holidays it seems as though Fefe will
be hard at work.
When
people hear the name Fefe Dobson, she wants people
to think of a "good artist, good person,
and good performer". It's almost impossible
to think otherwise of this cute girl-next-door
who you would just love to vote for Prom Queen.
She actually SKIPPED out on to the TRL stage as
if she were Dorothy darting down the yellow brick
road, and I think it's possible that Fefe may
one day soon be skipping right down that red carpet.
Can we hear 'best new female artist'?
