Spotlight: Buckcherry
March 28th at the Whiskey in Hollywood, Buckcherry tore through their set with military precision. This is their last night at the Whiskey after playing multiple shows here for a month. The moment they took the stage singer Josh Todd announced “Fuck the system, Fuck Society, and Fuck You” blasting into their first song. From that moment on the Whiskey was completely ruled by Buckcherry. Every song was delivered with an intense passion as if this was their last chance to play for the crowd. The band played plenty of old hits like “Porno Star” Lit Up” and “For the Movies” and the crowd devoured them.

With the release of their new album “15” Buckcherry dished out song after song of new material including the radio ready “Next 2 You” and the new hit single “Crazy Bitch”. The band has mastered the art of writing in your face AC/DC fueled guitar rock. Singer Todd is a machine never skipping a beat and always jumping around like a tattoo covered pogo stick.

Keith Nelson primary song writer and the other original member besides Todd is solid as a brick house never missing a lick on his guitar. New member Stevie D. on guitar is a perfect addition to the mix. His solos are on fire and his stage presence fits the Buckcherry line up like a glove. Xavier Muriel lays down a solid groove while performing his ass off. Bass Player Jimmy Ashhurst brings with him all the experience he has earned over the years touring and playing with well known musicians and helps flawlessly with the backing vocals filling up the songs with that full bluesy Buckcherry rock sound. New song “Everything” is another single for the radio.

Live, the band is unstoppable; I have yet to see a band over the years that can produce as much intensity and fire as Buckcherry. 95% of the bands out there couldn’t touch Buckcherry on an off night.

I met up with an old friend Josh Todd, lead singer of Buckcherry after his sound check at The Whisky-a-Go-Go, in Hollywood. We both grew up in Orange County, California, both of us singing in bands and working at a pizza delivery shop. I have watched Josh over the years become a successful rock musician in Buckcherry and as a solo artist. Buckcherry has played shows all over the world and their first release the self-titled “Buckcherry” went Gold in the US. Here is what transpired during our interview.
So are you guys playing the whole month here at the Whiskey?
No, we just did three weeks every Tuesday, this is our last one.
And that is it, are you going on tour?

We have been on tour. We have already been to Japan twice, and we just finished a whole Canadian Northeast, Northwest Tour.

Nice. Of all the places, you have played what’s your favorite place to play?

Japan.
