Spotlight: 6Gig
Tincan Experiment So you're thinking....huh? What the heck does that mean? It means good music and a damn good cd. Something that I can gurantee you've never heard before, and that you WILL like. From the first riff of Method, to the melodic ending of Willie, you will take a rollercoaster ride that will be nothing short of pure ecstasy. There is not a nanosecond that is not original and catchy. 6gig, a band that blends their influences and sounds like nothing that is out there today. A gem to the industry.

Two songs on the album that I'd like to go into a little bit more are"Hit The Ground", "5" and "Yesterday". These songs are available for download, so get 'em while they're hot. First up is Hit The Ground, the first single from the album. Although this song wasn't played on MTV that much, it WAS played at last year's Super Bowl at some point. The song starts off with bam, not wasting any time. Then we roll into the verse where the same riff is played at lower volume with Walter singing. Then into the first chorus, "I'm only stopping.." will be in your head for the rest of the day so get used to it. The guitars add a texture to the chorus that is not usually seen in today's music. Then after the chorus we go into a guitar solo which is absolutley wild. A solo that sounds like it's straight up alien music, crazy stuff. Then a breakdown which is really cool and meshes right into the chorus. The outro is a extended version of the intro which is a good guitar riff with a odd disorted harmonic with great drums. Speaking of drums, Dave really stands out on this record, really good drummer.

The next song we're gunna check out is, 5. This song has been available on BandNation.com for quite a while. So if you haven't checked it out, check it out already! The song starts out with another crazy space type riff then straight up heavyness. Then we stroll into the verse "I'm the biggest hypocrite that I know", how cool is that? Then after that there's a little break before we go into the "Quick blink, turn yellow into red, 5 placed on black square" section. Read my interview with Walter to find out the meaning of that line, cool stuff. Then another catchy chorus. How do they do it? Again, another great melody over textured guitars. This process is repeated and then the beginning of the guitar solo is the intro. Then Steve just completely goes crazy with his guitar using his Whammy Pedal. Not just screeches but quick runs and blurps of sound. Into the last chorus we go, and you're singing the chorus already, amazing huh?

Last, but not least is "Yesterday" which starts off with the wierdest guitar riff. This leads into the verse and into the pre-chorus. The pre chorus is very calm leading up to a huge chorus. Then you start to hear in the background "That was..", then we fly into the chorus. Once again, amazing work by everyone in the band creating a wall of sound. This is all repeated thankfully so we can hear the melodies and great work of the band we know as 6gig. A breakdown sets up for a last HUGE chorus that if you ever see 6gig live has EVERYBODY singing "That was yesterday", amazing stuff.

You're still reading this and you don't have 6gig's cd? Go buy it already! it's an amazing piece of work. Nothing else is like it out there today. Even though I only went into depth with 3 songs, there are 9 more that stand out just as much. There's not really much more I can say than good job to the guys and definitely check out the cd. (Tincan Experiment) Now when you hear the word 6gig you'll immediatley think of good music.

Hit The Ground
This month, Josh got to interview Walter Craven, singer/guitarist for the band 6gig, who has been getting alot of reaction from fans here at BandNation.com.
Did you always sing in your other bands?
I've never sang in a band before. I used to sing backup vocals and harmonies, but this is the first band I've ever sang in.
Why the name 6gig?
No story to it really, I do a lot of graphic design and I heard the phrase 6gig a lot in reference to computers. It just popped in my head one day and I thought "That sounds cool".

How do you normally write songs?

It's different all the time. The way we're writing now is that we'll just go in and someone might come in with a idea that's more complete. A verse section and a chorus, maybe a middle section and then we all just jam it and see how it feels, see what needs to be tweeked. Other times someone comes in with just one groove, one idea, and we just sort of throw it out, play it, record it. We record all our ideas on a 16 track and then I go and do vocals on it after it's already laid down.
