LIGHTS CROWNED CANADA’S BEST NEW ARTIST
Electro-Pop Multi-Instrumentalist Wins the 2009 JUNO For New Artist of the Year
Vans Warped Tour Dates Confirmed Burbank, CA- Canadian songstress LIGHTS was crowned Canada’s best new artist at the 2009 JUNO Awards, which took place in Vancouver, BC, on Sunday, March 29th. The 21-year-old multi-instrumentalist won the prestigious New Artist of the Year award, joining past winners Feist, Avril Lavigne, and Michael Bublé.
Called a "synth-pop super heroine" by the San Francisco Examiner, Toronto-based LIGHTS has been crafting her sparkling electro-pop since the age of 11, and writing, producing, and performing her own music. The songs from her debut EP have already sold more than 143,000 digital downloads and garnered a collective 6 million plays on MySpace. In the past year, LIGHTS has racked up a #1 hit on MuchMusic Canada, inclusion in a series of Old Navy commercials, and airtime on The Hills. Her full-length debut is due out this fall.
LIGHTS will be previewing songs from her debut on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour. She is hitting the road for the entire first month of the tour, beginning June 26th in Pomona, CA, through July 26th in Tampa, FL.
In other news, LIGHTS will be performing on the much buzzed-about “Rockville CA,” a musically driven original digital series for TheWB.com from executive producers Josh Schwartz (“Gossip Girl,” “Chuck,” “The O.C.”) and Alexandra Patsavas (Chop Shop Records, music supervisor for “Twilight,” “Gossip Girl,” “Grey’s Anatomy”). Her webisode premieres April 28th, and fans can log on to TheWB.com now to watch two live performances from her EP. Other indie-favorites slated to appear include Kaiser Chiefs, Lykke Li, Passion Pit, Phantom Planet, and Travis.
